Like the bongo player from Stan Freberg’s take on Harry Belafonte’s ‘Banana Boat Song’, Del Close’s beatnik character Geets Romo is a hipper-than-thou dude being interviewed by the straight John Brent in his search to understand the jazz-friendly patois of the ‘50s. But, what started as a spoof entered the counter culture vocabulary, inspired Brian Wilson and was sampled by Deadmau5, DJ Food and Dimitri From Paris among others. It even features Roland Kirk passing by at one point. Totally digable.
